Route from Krakow to Oświęcim railway station by train

If you are planning to visit Auschwitz, it is worth knowing that a good way to get from Krakow to the place is by train. This form is fast, cheap, comfortable and ecological. Not far from the market square in Krakow, there is a railway station from where trains depart.

Walk along historic Florianska Street, then through Planty and the subway. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from the Main Square. The station is connected to Galeria Krakowska, located at the bottom of the station.

To check the timetable, you can use the board at the station, an app on your phone or the Małopolska Railway website.

It is best to buy your ticket before you travel. You can do this on the website of Małopolska Railways and in mobile applications such as IMKA, Bilcom, Epodróżnik, mPay and Koleo. Another convenient way is to buy your ticket at the ticket machine or ticket offices at the railway station.

Now all that remains is to get to the platform. Check the timetable board to see which platform your train is on and follow the signs. Remember that some trains may depart from different platforms depending on your route, so it’s worth making sure you’re on the right one.

The journey will take around an hour and you will find plenty of facilities on the train. Your route is shown on screens, you can connect to Wi-Fi, charge your phone by plugging it into the power socket under your seat or use the accessible toilet.

When you get off, you will be at the train station in Oświęcim. You can now continue your journey into the city. There are city bus stops near the station, which you can find out more about in our videos on travelling around Auschwitz. Taxis or simply walking are also other options.
