The Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents

When visiting Oświęcim, you must see the Auschwitz Memorial Museum, which is located only 200 metres from the former German camp of Auschwitz.

It is a must-see on the city map for every visitor. The museum opened its permanent exhibition in 2022. It aims to restore and save the memory of the people who made up the history of the Oświęcim area during World War II.

The exhibition is located on as many as three floors of the building. It presents the heroic actions of the inhabitants of the land of Oświęcim who risked their lives to help the prisoners of Auschwitz.

The exhibition on the second floor is built in the form of a labyrinth, while on the third floor there is a space symbolising the safe place guaranteed by Polish families to those fleeing the camp.

The museum features many artefacts and testimonies of witnesses to history, and the multimedia form of the exhibition encourages visitors and allows the viewer to feel the emotions even better. It is worth noting the sculpture by Igor Mitoraj and the steam screen which, by displaying photographs, shows the past from the inter-war period.

The last part of the exhibition tells the story of the first months and years after the end of the Second World War and the repressions suffered by the inhabitants and their families for their activities during the war.

The Museum of the Remembrance of the Residents of the Land of Oświęcim is an unparalleled place. It is a must-visit to hear the stories of the exceptional people who risked their lives to help the prisoners of the Auschwitz German extermination camp.
